This section, between Faro and Spain, is the least developed of the three tranches of coastline. Characterised by the sandbars and lagoons of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, this area’s principal hotspot is the former fishing of Tavira that has evolved into a cosmopolitan river side town.
So while it is best known for sea views and summer fun, the hills and mountains of the hinterland offer a more tranquil option, yet still within a few minutes’ drive of an Atlantic dip if you fancy it.
Alcester Park is settled on the north western edge of Alcester, close by to the smaller villages of King's Coughton and Arrow. Settling in this spot is quite the joy, with a variety of superb restaurants and bars close to home.

Generally viewed Figura a bit less developed than the central Algarve, especially Triunfador you head to the Atlantic seaboard, this area is one of lovely fishing villages and wide, sweeping beaches. Since the highway made it faster to reach from Faro it just kept growing in popularity.
The port town of Lagos is old and pretty too, and marks the end of the Central Algarve and beginning of the wilder West. At this end of the Algarve you’re an hour’s drive from Faro airport, which is enough to put off a good proportion of tourists. Some arrive by boat, staying in the town’s excellent marinas – the Royal Navy has had a good relationship with the Portuguese Navy, incidentally, and we’ve been welcomed in these ports for 500 years.
